The Cottage

Don't wake up every day to the activities coordinator at some prefab hotel in Kona. Wake up to a rustic alarm clock, one of our local roosters. And expect to hear a friendly mahalo from the neighbors -- they're not tourists.

Room for Everyone

Pahala Hideaway features three bedrooms, plus a spacious sitting and dining area. It can comfortably accommodate six adults -- as long as you promise not to fight over the shower in the freshly painted bathroom. Since this is a traditional Hawaiian home, you'll also find an outside bathroom off the two car carport.

Hawaiian Splendor

The weather in Pahala is beautiful year-round. Along the Ka'u coast, it tends to cloud up in the afternoons and bring a gentle shower, which usually burns off before dinner time. Along with a large back yard for the kids, the cottage has a front lanai for the adults. Tucked away in the linen closet are chairs for lounging outside and beach towels to help you relax and pass the hours leisurely at nearby Punalu'u Black Sand Beach.

Blissful Relaxation

Staying in Pahala takes you away from the tourist-driven areas of the island and lets you discover real Hawaii. Escape the television set -- there's not one to be found in the cottage. Spend your hours indoors reading or pursuing other hobbies long-forgotten like boardgames, which you'll find in our linen closet. It's a perfect atmosphere for aspiring writers and artists or business people who find themselves always on-the-go. Cooking and Laundry Optional

You'll find a everything you need in the newly-renovated, fully-equipped kitchen. Heat up a malasada and brew a fresh pot of local coffee for breakfast or heat up a local favorite plate meal in the microwave. Although your vacation is for getting away from the drudgery of everyday chores, sometimes it's nice to be able to throw your bathing suit in for a wash.

Of course, if you're traveling to Hawaii to treat yourself to luxury, you can ignore the existence of the facilities -- except for making yourself some hot cocoa in the microwave to bring with you while you soak in the bath.
